Bekir Baba

Bekir Baba is an artist and academic from Trabzon, Turkey. He continues his artistic and academic practice at the intersection of painting and digital technologies. His work focuses on digital painting, contemporary art, visual narrative, image analysis, and technology-based production processes.

Bekir Baba completed his undergraduate education in Art Teaching within the Department of Fine Arts Education at Necmettin Erbakan University, Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education. He received his master’s degree from the Department of Painting at the Institute of Fine Arts, Gazi University. In his master’s thesis, titled A Semiotic Analysis of Images Related to the Concept of the Sky in Contemporary Turkish Painting, he examined the images shaped around the concept of the sky in contemporary Turkish painting through a semiotic approach.

He completed his Proficiency in Art degree at the Department of Painting, Institute of Social Sciences, Gaziantep University. In his thesis, titled Digital Painting Practices in the Interaction of Technology and Art, he investigated the effects of digital tools on painterly production within the context of contemporary art practices. This study addresses the new forms of expression emerging from the interaction between art and technology through both theoretical and practical perspectives.

In Bekir Baba’s artistic practice, the layered structure enabled by digital technologies, possibilities of visual construction, a hybrid aesthetic understanding, and contemporary modes of expression hold a significant place. His academic research concentrates on digital arts, new media aesthetics, visual culture, and technology-assisted artistic production. This approach, which develops artistic practice and theoretical research together, gives his work a multilayered and interdisciplinary character.

Since 2018, Bekir Baba has continued his academic work in the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Gaziantep University. At different periods, he has also worked in the fields of art consultancy, painting education, design, and art direction. This interdisciplinary experience has provided an important foundation that nourishes both the conceptual and visual language of his artistic production.

Throughout his artistic career, Bekir Baba has received recognition through various awards and exhibitions. In 2020, he received an Achievement Award in the 1st International Letter Art event; in 2017, he won first place in the Painting Competition for July 15 Won in the Spirit of Çanakkale; and in 2016, his work was selected for exhibition in the Yunus Emre Like Painting Competition.

Today, he continues his work through academic research in digital arts and contemporary painting practices, developing new expressive possibilities at the intersection of art and technology.
